Jammu, Jul 04: A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a manhunt and the subsequent arrest of the accused, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Naresh Singh said the accused was arrested by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) following the registration of an FIR under the relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

He said a man lodged a written complaint, alleging that his granddaughter had been sexually assaulted.

The police arrested the accused, identified as Imran Hossain, a resident of Bhugrana Badhat, and further investigation is underway, the officer said. ( PTI )
