SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday paid tributes to the July 13, 1931 martyrs, while alleging that he had once again been placed under house arrest and condemning the security restrictions around Srinagar’s Jama Masjid and the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib.

In a post on X, Mirwaiz described the July 13 martyrs as the pioneers of the people’s struggle for justice, dignity and human rights, saying their sacrifices laid the foundation for a movement that continues to this day.

He alleged that people in Jammu and Kashmir had been prevented from offering fatiha and paying homage at the Martyrs’ Graveyard, claiming that all roads leading to Mazar-e-Shuhada at Naqshband Sahib had been blocked and barricaded, while restrictions had also been imposed around Jama Masjid in Srinagar.

Mirwaiz further claimed that he had once again been placed under house arrest.

“Graveyards may be sealed, roads blocked and people confined, the martyrs live in our hearts and our collective memory for all times,” he said.

Offering prayers for the July 13 martyrs and others who lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir, Mirwaiz prayed that they be granted the highest place in Jannah and concluded his message with a salute to the martyrs of Kashmir.
