Recalling the Hawal massacre of 21 May 1990, in which more than seventy mourners accompanying the funeral procession of Shaheed-e-Millat (RA) were martyred, Mirwaiz said the tragedy remains among the most painful chapters in the contemporary history of Kashmir and continues to evoke deep sorrow and emotion among the people.

Mirwaiz said that, to commemorate the martyrdom of Shaheed-e-Millat (RA) as Hafte Shahdat ,a series of events beginning from 18 May 2026 have been planned .

Giving details Mirwaiz said that on Monday, 18 May, Qur’an Khwani, a Du’a Majlis and Husn-i-Qira’at competition will be held at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar. On Tuesday, 19 May, a blood donation camp will be organised at Ganj Bakhsh Park, Nowhatta. On Wednesday, 20 May, a seminar titled “Holistic Education for a Healthy Society: Nurturing the Mind and Body” will be held at the main auditorium of Islamia Higher Secondary School, Rajouri Kadal.

The commemorative programmes will conclude on Thursday, 21 May, with a Du’a Majlis and commemorative gathering for Shaheed-e-Millat (RA) and the martyrs of 21 May 1990 at Mazar-e-Shuhada, Eidgah Srinagar.

Mirwaiz expressed hope that the authorities will not create any impediments or restrictions regarding the observance of the martyrdom events and will allow people to peacefully participate in them and pay homage to their beloved leader and the martyrs of Hawal.

He said such occasions also provide an opportunity for the younger generation to understand the contributions and legacy of leaders like Shaheed-e-Millat (RA), whose life was dedicated to faith, education, social reform, communal harmony and the peaceful resolution of issues.
