Srinagar, January 24, Kashmir Pen: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, leading a delegation from the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) of Jammu and Kashmir, met with Jagdambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), to discuss concerns regarding the proposed Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024.

During the meeting, held on January 24, 2025, in New Delhi, the delegation presented a detailed memorandum outlining their perspectives and reservations about the proposed amendments. They engaged in an in-depth discussion, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the religious and cultural significance of waqf properties in Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation highlighted the potential implications of the amendments and stressed the need for a consultative approach that includes all stakeholders, ensuring that the interests of the community are preserved.
The meeting marked a significant step in the ongoing dialogue between religious organizations and policymakers, with both sides agreeing to maintain open channels of communication regarding the proposed changes to the Waqf Act.
