National Conference leader and MLA Banihal, Sajjad Shaheen on Thursday kick-started the macadamisation work on the Banihal–Chanjloo road, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the locals.

Shaheen said the project is part of a broader plan to upgrade road connectivity across the Banihal–Gool constituency, following recent works on the Banihal–Lamber and Banihal–Dooligam roads. “Improved connectivity is the backbone of development. Our people have suffered due to poor road conditions for decades,” he said, adding that the present government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has prioritised road infrastructure.

He expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister for their support and assured that more roads approved under the constituency plan will be taken up in a phased manner. “Quality work and time-bound completion will remain my top priority,” Shaheen added.

Locals welcomed the initiative and expressed hope that the pace of development in Banihal will continue with renewed energy.
