A moderate intensity earthquake jolted the Kashmir Valley on Saturday, a weather official confirmed.

The Met department official said here: “An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale occurred today at 5.44 a.m.

“The intensity of the earthquake was moderate and its coordinates were latitude 35.0 degrees north and longitude 74.4 degrees east.

The epicentre of the tremor, according to US Geological Survey, was at a depth of 35 kilometres and 4km SWS of Sumbal.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or any damage to property.
