Srinagar, Nov 17 (K Pen): Police on Monday confirmed the arrest of a woman wanted in multiple criminal cases registered across several police stations in the Kashmir Valley.
Officials said that Police Station Lal Bazar apprehended the accused, identified as Asmat Jan alias Taboo, who has been named in FIRs filed in Khrew Awantipora, Pulwama, Sopore, Chadoora, and Budgam. A fresh case — FIR No. 42/2025 under relevant sections of the BNS — is also registered against her at Lal Bazar Police Station. Police noted that she had been absconding for a considerable period.
According to police sources, credible information was received on Friday indicating that Asmat Jan was hiding at Hotel White House in Jalandhar, Punjab. Acting swiftly, a team from Lal Bazar Police Station travelled to the location and arrested her.
The accused has since been brought back to Srinagar on a two-day transit remand, officials added.
