Srinagar, Oct 28 : Supporters of National Conference leader Mubarak Gul on Wednesday staged a protest at Press Colony in Srinagar, demanding a cabinet berth for the Eidgah MLA following his exclusion from the government.

Wearing white shrouds, the protesters held placards demanding that Gul be given a cabinet berth or resign from the party.

“Do justice to Eidgah, make Mubarak Gul a cabinet minister,” the protesters chanted, expressing resentment over the party’s decision, as per the news agency.

“Gul Sahab, resign,” the protesters shouted.

One of the protesters said Gul had contested seven elections and won every time, alleging that the party had failed to honour its commitment to him. “Farooq Sahab had promised us. His name was on the list until yesterday, but he was not given a ministerial berth,” the protester said.

It is worth mentioning that Mubarak Gul, a six-time MLA from Eidgah, was left out of the Cabinet during Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s expansion on Tuesday. Gul was subsequently appointed the National Conference’s general secretary, but the appointment did not immediately satisfy all his supporters.
