Srinagar, July 11: Authorities on Saturday imposed traffic restrictions on the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway to facilitate the annual Muharram procession at Mirgund in Pattan, officials said.
A 10-hour diversion advisory was issued for the arterial road from 10 am to 8 pm to ensure smooth conduct of the religious congregation and avert any law-and-order situation, they added.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic Rural Kashmir, Liyaqat Ali said that commuters would face disruptions throughout the procession and advised against non-essential travel on the highway.
As per the diversion plan, vehicles from Baramulla and Kupwara towards Srinagar will be routed via Hamray–Pattan–Hanjiveera–KP Payeen–Jheel Bridge–Gund Khawaja Qasim–Mazhama–Narbal. Conversely, vehicles from Srinagar to Baramulla, Sopore, and Kupwara will be diverted through Narbal–Magam–Kongamdara–Hanjiveera–Pattan–Hamray.
The advisory was issued in view of the expected large turnout, balancing the sanctity of the religious event with minimising public inconvenience, the SSP added.
