Srinagar, Feb 11 : Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday raised concerns over pending subsidies under the Rural Employment Generation Programme and the impact of the reservation policy on unemployment.

Speaking in the Assembly, Mehdi said the subsidy under the programme, which is similar to the Youth Scheme, has been pending for three years. He sought clarification from the government on the delay.

He further said that while it is stated that no audit has been conducted, the loan-based subsidy requires assessment, and the Assembly should be informed about how much of the loan has been converted into income.

Mehdi also pointed out that the current reservation policy excludes a majority of the population, affecting employment opportunities. He noted that the Chief Minister has worked on the issue and the file is currently in Delhi.

He requested the House to consider forming a committee in Delhi to address the matter and resolve the issue at the earliest.(KNS).
