In a significant political development, Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), has been elected as the leader of the National Conference Legislature Party. The decision was made during a meeting of party MLAs today in Srinagar.
Omar Abdullah, while addressing the media, expressed his gratitude to the MLAs for electing him as the leader of the legislature party. “I express my gratitude to the MLAs for their support. Talks are ongoing to secure a letter of support from the Congress party,” he said.
The National Conference, which currently holds 42 seats in the assembly, has also garnered the support of four independent MLAs, increasing its tally.
“Four independent MLAs have extended their support to the National Conference, bringing our total to 42 plus 4 independent MLAs,” Abdullah added.
He further stated that once the Congress provides its letter of support, the National Conference will approach the Raj Bhavan to formally stake its claim to form the government.
“After receiving the letter from Congress, we will proceed to the Raj Bhavan to stake our claim for government formation,” he concluded.
