New Delhi, Dec 13 (KNC): On the 24th anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Members of Parliament on Saturday paid rich tributes to the brave security personnel who laid down their lives while thwarting the terror assault.
As per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, A solemn ceremony was held outside the old Parliament building, Samvidhan Sadan, where the Vice President, who is also the Rajya Sabha Chairman, along with Prime Minister Modi, was among the first to offer floral tributes. CISF personnel presented a ceremonial “samman guard,” followed by a two-minute silence in memory of the fallen heroes.
Several senior leaders, including Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju, Jitendra Singh, and Arjun Ram Meghwal, were present to pay homage. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla could not attend as he was in Latur to attend the funeral of former Speaker Shivraj Patil.
The 2001 attack was carried out by five heavily armed terrorists but was successfully foiled by personnel of the then Parliament Security Service, CRPF, and Delhi Police, preventing them from entering the Parliament building. In the attack, six Delhi Police personnel, two Parliament Security Service staff, a gardener, and a TV cameraman lost their lives, while all five terrorists were neutralised. (KNC)
