Man has become a monster trying to destroy the habitat and create havoc among flora and fauna and the irony is that this is done with absolute interest by taking lightly its worse impacts.
Such monsters now have the capacity to alter the earth system in ways that threaten the very processes and components upon which humans depend.
The use of so called high level technologies like nuclear weapons, Retrofit Aerosol jets ,Aeroplanes ,Radioactive substances have become a major threat to our biodiversity. Nuclear power has been called a clean source of energy because the power plants do not release carbon dioxide. While this is true, it is deceiving. Nuclear power plants may not emit carbon dioxide during operation, but high amounts of carbon dioxide are emitted in activities related to building and running the plants. Nuclear power plants use uranium as fuel. The process of mining uranium releases high amounts of carbon dioxide into the environment. Carbon dioxide is also released into the environment when new nuclear power plants are built. Finally, the transportation of radioactive wastes also causes carbon dioxide emissions while, the release of CFC’s and other compounds from these Jets and other air lifts have more and more tendency to retain UV radiations. These compounds are responsible for green house effect which leading us to see unseasonal snowfalls ,monsoons etc.Glaciers are melting at an alarming rate with a possibility to destroy the polar habitats. Thus letting the beautiful creation like polar bears getting extinct. As release of CFC’s we have seen the ozone blanket getting thinner day that will surely lead to skin cancers and other types of diseases. As climate warms, species will migrate towards higher latitudes and altitudes in both hemisphere. The increase in the amount of CO2in the air affects the physiological functioning of plant and their species composition. Green house effect tends to an imbalance in the hydrological cycle, Heat budget and other natural cycles that directly impact us. Desertification and deforestation the main causes of bio diversity loss are decisively influenced by the extension of agriculture. The direct cost of deforestation is reflected in the loss of valuable plants and animal species. Desertification a result of poor land management is further aggravated by climatic changes. Converting wild lands to agriculture often involves ploughing the soils which leads to an average decline in soil organic matter between 25 and 40 per cent over twenty five years.
Many more threats to biodiversity brought about by humans are habitat Loss, invasion of non native species,Pollution,Overexploitation of Resources,Global Environmental change. So we used to take an initiative as being an individual to overcome these threats by taking our Greed in control and letting the earth to remain a blue planet alas than a dead planet.
Waste Management is also a major challenge in Urban areas while lesser in rural areas. This waste had turned the streams; lakes contaminated and turn them into Eutrophic ones which adversely affects the water Ecosystem. Even in present times we rarely found schizothorax and other fresh water kashmiri fishes while also Over fishing is the greatest threat to populations of fish that live in surface waters. About 75% of the world’s commercially valuable marine fish species are over fished or fished near their sustainable limits. Here again we shows our greedy nature.
Illegal Encroachment also a challenge and even concerned departments are mum. There are many species of birds and animals under the threat of extinction by means of illegal encroachment and Poaching.
Even Poaching has become a game for some so called humans. Many migratory birds who migrates from unsafer to safer places are getting brutally killed by poachers and these birds or animals taking them towards extinctions. These species are as like a legacy from our God and we have to pass it on to the other generations. if we will go with the same speed of poaching these birds and animals what we will pass on to the next generation and what they will pass in turn. So this is matter of great concern.
we need to stand up voluntarily and get united over such issues, otherwise the day is no more that we will be unable to bear and resist the worse impact erstwhile, There are many NGO’s and volunteers who are working we should not deny their approach but it is also our duty..Why should we let the rare people overexploit us? It is our Planet and we are its defenders..
A Healthy ecology is the basis for a healthy economy.
