Srinagar, Feb 15 2018
A local court has granted two-day transit remand to National Investigation Agency (NIA) of five accused arrested in connection with the escape of Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) Pakistani self styled commander Naveed Jatt from a hospital on February 6.
The five accused will now be produced before the NIA Special Court at Jammu on Friday for seeking police custody, official sources said.
Two policemen, Head Constable Mushtaq Ahmed and Constable Babar Ahmed, were killed in the attack staged by militants to free Jatt, who had come to the SHMS hospital for a medical checkup on February 6 from central jail, Srinagar.
However, police was able to crack the case within 48 hours of the incident and nabbed four accused, including two militants — Shakeel Ahmad Bhat, Tika Khan — and two Over Ground Workers (OGWs) — Syed Tajamul and Mohammad Shafi Wani — involved in the crime.
One more accused, identified as Jan Mohammad Ganai, was later arrested.
