The recent encounter in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, where four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, were killed, has sparked significant political reactions and criticisms. The Congress party has been particularly vocal, using the incident to critique the central government’s handling of national security.
On social media platform ‘X’, the Congress party posted a graphic highlighting that nine terrorist attacks have occurred within 38 days of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) third term. The post also detailed the casualties from these attacks, mentioning that 12 soldiers were killed, 13 injured, 10 civilians were killed, and 44 were injured.
In their official statement, the Congress party expressed condolences for the soldiers’ families and prayed for the deceased. They criticized the government’s response to the ongoing security situation, suggesting that the government is treating it as “business as usual.”
Party President Mallikarjun Kharge also condemned the attacks, expressing his sorrow for the loss of lives and calling for a reassessment of the security strategy in Jammu and Kashmir. He accused the government of ignoring the increasing number of attacks in the Jammu region and stressed the need for a unified national effort to combat cross-border terrorism.
Defence officials have confirmed the deaths and ongoing operations in the Dessa area of Doda. The encounter began after a joint operation by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir police. Additional troops have been deployed to secure the area.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi briefed Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the situation, indicating the high-level attention the encounter has received.
