CM questions government response to Indian Express report; backs opposition protest over electoral issues
Srinagar, Oct 7 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday questioned the government’s response to reports surrounding the ongoing protest over the Chief Election Commissioner issue, asking why action had not been taken if the allegations were fabricated.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, as per news agency , Omar was asked about the detention of Rahul Gandhi and the ongoing protest.
“If this is all fabrication, then why don’t you take action against them?” Omar said.
Referring to a report published by The Indian Express, he said that if the report was incorrect, the government could have taken legal action.
“At least there would have been defamation. But it was not done,” CM Omar said.
Omar said the ongoing protest was part of a broader opposition programme announced following a meeting in Delhi.
“This is the result of the INDIA bloc meeting that took place in Delhi the other day. And the calendar of the whole month was presented to the media,” he said.
“We are taking that forward,” the Chief Minister added.
