On 14th October 2017, Janata Dal (United) State Party President (J&K) G.M Shah (Shaheen) expressing serious concern over the continuous incidents of Braid Chopping in valley, more than 100 braid-chopping incidents have taken place in the Valley during the past few weeks. The incidents of braid chopping are worrisome. People are pointing fingers at security forces especially SOG’s so the government should immediately identify the people behind the incidents and take action against them. There is uncertainty in Kashmir and women feel insecure. I don’t think it should happen when we have a woman Chief Minister here.
Shaheen said that the acts were aimed at creating a sense of insecurity and fear-psychosis among the womenfolk. Now it is our moral responsibility to raise our voice against cruelty meted out to our mothers and sisters. We cannot tolerate the attack on the honour of our mothers, sisters and daughters. Whosoever is behind this gruesome act is enjoying full patronage otherwise it is not difficult for police to identify and arrest them.
Shaheen said it has been more than a month but the accused braid choppers are still at large. State Government must wake up and take strong notice of the situation. Government should take measures to rebuild the trust and confidence among the people before the situation slips out of hand, he said.
Shaheen also concern that Shifting of Civil Secretariat offices people of valley are left with plethora of unaddressed issues. Winters bring challenges for a common Kashmiri, it is the time of the year when he needs civil servant to stand by him but unfortunately that is not the case to be. After moving of civil secretariat people are suffering very badly due to their pending works at civil secretariat.
Shaheen said that the collation government failed the people of valley, when it’s intervention was needed the post to save the marooned people and provide them relief and shelter have now come out with the nasty suggestion that many people (in Kashmir) have expressed their displeasure about the official announcement regards closure of civil secretariat and other offices in summer capital Srinagar. The condition of Kashmiri’s are left with no option but to pursue their matters all the way to Jammu irrespective of whether they can afford the expenses of the journey or not, he said
