Only one-way traffic was allowed on the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway on Friday due to bad road conditions, officials said.

Authorities in Jammu said no vehicle would be allowed to move on the highway from Jammu to Srinagar on Friday. The highway was restored for one-way traffic on Thursday after it remained closed for three days.

“One-way traffic will be allowed on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. Vehicles will be allowed to move from Srinagar to Jammu and no vehicle will be allowed to move from the opposite direction,” an official of the traffic department said.

“This precaution has been taken keeping the safety of the travellers in mind,” he added.

Since all essentials of life are routed into the landlocked Kashmir Valley through this highway, temporary closures due to snowfall and landslides often result in profiteers and black marketeers hoarding goods to hike prices.
