An official told news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) acting on specific information, a team from Police Station Achabal conducted a search operation in Ganie Mohallah, Akingam, and found that one Ghulam Mohammad Dass, son-in-law of Ghulam Qadir Ganie, a resident of the area, had illegally cultivated the contraband crop on orchard land near his house, the official said.

The illicit crop was destroyed on the spot as per legal procedure.

A case, FIR No. 26/2026, has been registered under Sections 8 and 18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and an investigation has been initiated, the official added.

Police have appealed to the public not to indulge in illegal cultivation of opium poppy or any other contraband crop, warning that such activities are a punishable offence and strict legal action will be taken against violators. (KNS)
