The Jammu and Kashmir administration has sacked an employee of the Government Medical College, Rajouri, who posted a WhatsApp status celebrating the Indian cricket team’s defeat against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2021.
Brij Mohan, Principal of Government Medical College, Rajouri, has issued an order to sack Safiya Majeed, working as an OT technician. Safiya posted a total of seven WhatsApp status updates on 23 October from 11.32 pm to 11.49 pm, showing celebrations of the Indian cricket team’s defeat against Pakistan.
The copy of the order which is with the Press Trust of Kashmir reads, “While a viral video has come to the notice of the undersigned from various media platforms and also from DSP Headquarters, Rajouri, who has sent it through WhatsApp in which Miss Safiya Majeed OT Technician, employed and working as OT Technician in GMC and AH Rajouri, seems to have posted his WhatsApp status showing the celebration of Indian cricket team’s defeat against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021, An activity which appears to be treacherous to the nation.
It further added, “And Whereas no employee of this institution shall be allowed to be disloyal to the nation. And whereas, as reported by HoD Gynae and Obst., the said engagee proceeded on casual leave for five days w.e.f 21-10-2021 and also failed to join her duties on expiry of said leave. And whereas no prior notice is required to be given to such employee for gross indiscipline in her duties”.
“Now, therefore keeping in view the above facts and circumstances, it is ordered that Miss Safia working on academic basis under SRO-24 (now read as SO 364 dated 27-11-2020) The services of Majeed OT Technician are terminated with immediate effect,” it added.
