More than 200 Indian students, primarily from Jammu & Kashmir, studying in universities in Isfahan and Golestan, have successfully crossed the Iran–Armenia border, marking a significant step in the ongoing evacuation efforts.
All students who were earlier relocated from Tehran to Qom have now been moved towards the Armenia and Azerbaijan borders. However, students have informed All India Medical Students Association that several among them are struggling financially, as they are arranging their return travel independently. Many are unable to book flight tickets due to lack of funds, leaving them stranded despite reaching border points.
According to Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan, these students are scheduled to return to India between March 20 and March 25, along with additional batches from Shiraz University. Meanwhile, several Indian engineering students from Kerman have also reached the Iran–Armenia border and are currently awaiting visa clearance to proceed further.
However, the situation remains critical at the Azerbaijan border. Dr. Khan highlighted that more than 100 Indian students are still stranded, facing severe delays. “Only around 6–10 students are receiving exit codes each day, making the process extremely slow,” he said. Many of these students have been stuck since March 12, with several unable to cross the border in time, resulting in missed and wasted flight tickets.
Dr. Khan also extended his gratitude to the dedicated student representatives of All India Medical Students Association in Iran, particularly Faysal, Muskan, Bilal, Ahnaf, Fazil, Mehak, Mustaribah, Farwah, Himayat, Azhan, Basar, and others, who remain in constant coordination with stranded students and authorities, providing crucial on-ground support during the crisis.
He further thanked the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Iran for their timely intervention and continued support.
