Srinagar, Feb 8 : The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday held a workers’ meeting at Chattabal to review organisational matters and discuss pressing public issues.
In a statement issued to News Agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) The meeting was chaired by former State Secretary and Constituency Incharge Habba Kadal, Arif Laigroo, and was attended by former MLA Noor Mohammad Sheikh and District President Women’s Wing Sarah Nayeem, along with party workers and local residents.
After detailed deliberations, Hajra was unanimously nominated as Ward President Chattabal. On the occasion, scores of people from Chattabal also joined the PDP, expressing faith in the party’s leadership and policies.
The meeting witnessed wide-ranging discussions on issues confronting the local population. Participants voiced serious concern over inflated power bills, erratic electricity supply, and the dilapidated condition of roads and lanes, which have made daily life miserable for residents, particularly in Shehar-e-Khaas.
Addressing the gathering, Arif Laigroo asked party workers to gear up for the upcoming Municipal Elections, stressing the need to strengthen ward-level organisation and intensify grassroots outreach.
Criticising the ruling National Conference, Laigroo said, “The NC government has completely failed to fulfil the promises it made with the people before elections.
Shehar-e-Khaas has been totally neglected—broken roads, damaged lanes, inflated power bills, and lack of basic civic amenities reflect the government’s apathy. People are feeling betrayed, and PDP will hold this government accountable for its failures.”
Former MLA Noor Mohammad Sheikh, while addressing the meeting, said, “People are fed up with neglect, misgovernance, and the failure of authorities to provide even basic civic amenities. PDP has always stood for the rights of the common people, and it is our responsibility to strengthen the party at the grassroots so that people’s voices are effectively represented in municipal bodies.”
The meeting was also attended by Zone Vice President Mohammad Sultan, Zone Secretary Bilal Naika, Organising Secretary Faheem Bhat, Media Secretary Sheikh Nauman, and Ward Presidents Shakeel Ahmed, Nissar Bhat, Muzaffar Ahmed, and Aqib Farooq, besides other senior party workers and local functionaries.
The meeting concluded with a resolve to further strengthen PDP at the grassroots level and vigorously raise public issues to ensure justice and relief for the people of Chattabal and Shehar-e-Khaas. (KNS)
