Anantnag, Sep 12 : Hundreds of Bijbehara residents here in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, particularly the school students are facing difficulties in securing the Aadhar cards from the Bijbehara municipality.

The private company contracted by the state government to assist the local authorities has abandoned the town with the district authorities choosing to ignore the public plight.

Tariq Ahmed Mir, the Aadhar enrolment operator attached with the Bijbehara Town Hall has been absent from his job for several days in a row, adding to the mounting frustration of the students and their parents. Since he is apparently affiliated with the ruling party, the district authorities, despite knowing about the problems people face by his unauthorized absence, have been reluctant to call him to account.

Dozens of parents have complained about Mir but the Bijbehara Municipality or the district nodal officer has ignored the issue. Gulzar Ahmed Dhobi, a mason, complained that he wanted corrections for two of his children’s details and that of himself and has been visiting the office without ever been able to get hold of Mr. Mir, in-charge of issuing or altering Aadhar cards. Another person, Abdul Majid also said that he has been coming for two days without any joy of catching up with the official.

The officials at the Bijbehara Municipal Committee feigned ignorance about the absence of the Aadhar authorities but privately confirmed that people have been suffering but no action is being taken against the erring representative for his political affiliation with the ruling party.
