Says all arrangements in place ahead of snowfall forecast, hope for boost in tourism

Srinagar, Dec 20 (KNC): On the sidelines of Pheran Day and Jashn-e-Chillai Kalan celebrations at Kashmir Haat, Srinagar, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said the event also marked the 40th anniversary of Kashmiri Artisans’ Day, underscoring the enduring vibrancy of the Valley’s traditional craftsmanship.

Speaking to reporters, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, Garg congratulated the Handicrafts and Handlooms Department for organising the exhibition, stating that it beautifully reflected Kashmir’s age-old traditions and cultural warmth.

He said such events showcase Kashmiriyat and provide a vital platform to artisans who have preserved traditional crafts for generations.

“This exhibition represents our tradition, the warmth of Kashmir and the hard work of our artisans. It is encouraging to see the participation of youth as well,” the Divisional Commissioner said.

Garg also lauded initiatives such as Know Your Artisan and the handholding of weavers and traditional craftsmen, noting that these efforts have strengthened the handicrafts sector’s footprint in Srinagar and beyond.

“The traditional attire of Kashmir and our handicrafts reflect our warmth and aesthetics. All the artisans present here deserve immense credit for keeping this legacy alive while adapting to changing times,” he said.

He further appreciated the Handicrafts and Handlooms Department for regularly organising initiatives like three-day festivals, New Year artisan events and new marketing platforms.

“The department has been proactive in providing exposure and opportunities to artisans, especially ahead of the winter and tourist seasons,” Garg said, adding that the administration is actively promoting the local for local concept to bolster Kashmir’s craft economy.

Inviting people to visit the two-day exhibition at Kashmir Haat, Garg said such events not only celebrate Kashmir’s heritage but also enable artisans to connect directly with buyers and tourists.

The Divisional Commissioner also extended greetings for the upcoming festival season and briefed about winter preparedness, saying the Integrated Command and Control Centre and district level control rooms are functioning round the clock to ensure public convenience. —(KNC)
