photojournalist bags Istanbul Photo Award

Kashmir-based photojournalist Faisal Khan, who is currently working with Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, today bagged third prize in Single News Category in Istanbul Photo Awards. The winning photographs in the contest “have the power to engage people against wars and conflicts”.

“Istanbul Photo Awards is an international news photography contest organized by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency. The contest aims to contribute to the sphere of news photography and offers a perspective shaped by the region’s unique position at the center of diverse cultures.

The awards reward endeavors of courageous and talented photojournalists from around the world on merit. Although it is only the fourth edition of the contest, Istanbul Photo Awards has become one of the most widely known news photography contests in the world,” the organisers of the contest say.

It also says that the contest receives applications from more than 100 countries each year and this year,  37,000 photographs from 125 countries were sent to the contest.

The Photo of the Year was bagged by Bosnian photojournalist Damir Sagolj’s whose striking shot of a dead boy, his eyes covered with leaves, was chosen Photo of the Year 2018.

Khan did his masters in Journalism from Kashmir University with a specialization in Photography. He started his career with a local newspaper in Srinagar and started contributing to the foreign press agencies.
