Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday said that Jammu and Kashmir have always been one and will remain united in the future.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Abdullah said, “Jammu and Kashmir are one, and Jammu will progress along with Kashmir. The people of both regions have always considered themselves one, connected by language and faith, and will continue to remain united.”

He congratulated the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and the people for their cooperation, saying their welcome reflects unity and understanding between the regions.

When asked about the restoration of statehood, Abdullah said, “Inshallah, it will be completed soon.”

He appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pay attention to Jammu and Kashmir and to provide all possible help to the people affected by recent storms in the region. “I request the Prime Minister to keep an eye on Jammu and Kashmir and help the people so that their problems can be resolved,” he said, adding statehood should be restored.

On the upcoming by-elections in Banihal and Nagrota, Abdullah said that his party has good expectations from the contests.

When asked about the government’s performance, Abdullah said that promises are being fulfilled gradually. “There are still four years left, and more promises will be fulfilled,” he added.

Responding to concerns about pending files and unemployment, he said, “I hope the officials move the files quickly and send them to the government so that people get relief.” He also said that business rules should be implemented, adding, “It is the people’s government, and people have voted for it. The rules should be implemented.”

On BJP’s criticism that several departments are under the control of his government but work is not being done, Abdullah said, “I don’t want to answer the BJP. They should think about the people and leave politics aside. This government has emerged from difficult times, and everyone should work together for the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir.”

Responding to remarks that he has forgotten Article 370, Abdullah said that files are being delayed by the Lieutenant Governor. “He is sitting on the files. I told him that he has demoted the Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar. He said it has got autonomy, which was not true. The files are still with him,” Abdullah said.

He urged the Lieutenant Governor to act promptly, saying, “For God’s sake, move the files so that people can benefit. He cannot stop the government from working, but he is delaying it. He should be a friend of the people and the government that’s what he is there for.”(KNS).
