Police arrests 4 gamblers in Shopian, stake money seized

Acting tough against the social crimes, police have arrested four gamblers in South Kashmir’s Shopian district and seized stake money from their possession.

A Police spokesperson said that acting on a specific information regarding gambling activities at Gargan Shopian, a police party of Police Station Shopian raided the specific spot and arrested the four gamblers. They have been identified as Tanveer Ahmad Mir son of Gh. Ahmad Mir, Javid Hamad Mir son of Gh. Mohd Mir, Abdul Rafi Akhoon son of Bashir Ahmed Akhoon and Mukhtar Ahmad Zargar son of Mohammad Shafi Zargar, all residents of Gagran Shopian.

“Officers have seized stake money of Rs. 9000/- and playing cards from their possession. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody”, he said.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in police station and further investigation has been initiated.

People found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per the law. Community members are requested to share information regarding the crimes in their neighborhood with the local police units.
