Srinagar Police on Tuesday said that they have initiated action against individuals involved in making derogatory sectarian remarks on social media.

In a post on X, Police said, “a few individuals accused of such acts are currently being questioned at the police station, with legal proceedings underway. The authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken against the offenders in accordance with the law.”

In recent months, the police have observed a concerning trend of individuals spreading sectarian slander on social media platforms. These activities, believed to be driven by malicious intent, appear aimed at fostering division and unrest within the community.

“Legal action, following due process, will be taken against all offenders, and anyone sharing or forwarding such derogatory content against any sect will face strict action under the full force of the law”, the post reads.
