Srinagar, Apr 15 : Srinagar Police will intensify its crackdown on drug networks under a 100-day campaign, with a focus on dismantling the entire ecosystem, Senior Superintendent of Police for Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy said on Wednesday.
Speaking to Kashmir News Service (KNS), he said the initiative is part of the broader Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which he described as a national mission aimed at protecting youth from substance abuse.
“We will move at double speed with more intensified and ruthless operations against drugs. Our focus will be on hitting the entire drug ecosystem,” Chakravarthy said.
The SSP said the police will target not only drug peddlers but also financiers and other stakeholders linked to the trade.
“We will take strict action against peddlers, including big fish, and push them out of circulation. We will also act against funding channels. Whoever is involved in drugs will be punished,” he said.
Chakravarthy said the strategy goes beyond traditional law enforcement measures and includes financial investigations and property attachments to create deterrence.
“In the past, action was limited to arrests under NDPS and PSA. Now we are adopting a multi-faceted approach, including attaching properties and targeting financial networks supporting drug activities,” he said.
He also referred to possible external funding sources, stating that efforts are underway to counter such links as part of the broader strategy.
The SSP stressed that community participation is critical for the success of the campaign, describing drug abuse as a social issue rather than just a policing challenge.
“This fight is not only for the police or civil departments. It requires the involvement of the entire society. Without community participation, we cannot achieve 100 per cent success,” he said.
He urged people to share information about drug-related activities without fear, assuring anonymity and incentives for informants.
“There is hesitation among people that their identity may be revealed. We assure complete confidentiality. Informers will remain anonymous and will also be suitably rewarded,” he said.
Chakravarthy said Srinagar Police, along with civil departments, has already conducted large-scale operations and awareness programmes, including rallies, debates and media outreach.
The campaign was launched from Amar Singh College to engage youth, whom he described as central to the initiative.
“Youth are the future of the country. We started from the college to send a strong message and involve them in this movement,” he said.
He reiterated that the coming 100 days will see action-oriented enforcement combined with awareness efforts. “If the community stands with us, we will win this fight against drugs,” he added.(KNS).
