Jammu, Jul 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday issued public advisory urging victims of cyber blackmail; especially those facing threats of private photos or videos being made public; to immediately report such incidents instead of remaining silent.

In an advisory police cautioned that cyber criminals often use private content, emotional manipulation, and the fear of social exposure to intimidate victims and force them into silence.

“Fear is exactly what scammers rely on,” the advisory noted.

Authorities have appealed to the public not to panic or give in to threats, and to treat such extortion attempts as criminal offences under the IT Act.

Victims of cyber fraud, online blackmail, or harassment have been advised to register complaints by dialling the national cyber helpline number 1930 or through the government portal cybercrime.gov.in. Officials assured that all complaints would be handled with sensitivity and prompt legal action.
