Srinagar, Aug 19 : The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has announced scheduled power shutdowns across multiple areas in the valley to facilitate urgent infrastructure upgrades and maintenance work.
In an official order issued by the Office of the Chief Engineer (Distribution) here on Wednesday accessed news agency , two separate shutdowns have been approved for the 33 kV lines serving parts of Bandipora, Baramulla, and Ganderbal districts.
Officials said the first shutdown will affect the 33 kV LHP line, impacting receiving stations at Salamabad, Bandi, Mohura, and Noorkhah, resulting in a load outage of 13.5 MW. The shutdown is scheduled for August 24, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, and will disrupt power supply in Mohura, Noorkhah, Gingal, Salamabad, Lalpul, Garkote, Bandi, Parampillan, Rampur, Dhani, Bijhana, Bagna, Uri, Kamalkote, and adjacent areas.
KPDCL stated that the outage is necessitated by the augmentation of the 33 kV Uri line, which is presently critically overloaded. The work will be executed by Max Infra Pvt. Ltd.
The second shutdown pertains to the Potushai-Nadihal line, affecting Nadihal, Ajas, and Nusoo receiving stations with a load outage of 14 MW. The power cut will be observed on August 20, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and will impact Ajas, SK Bala, Bazipora, Nadihal, Guroora, Argam, and adjoining areas.
According to the order, the maintenance work includes branch cutting, straightening of sagged conductors at Nallah Papchan, repairing of a 33 kV isolator, and upkeep of existing yard equipment at the receiving stations.
The corporation has clarified that the shutdowns are subject to fair weather conditions and will be completed within the stipulated time frames. The executing agencies have been directed to strictly adhere to standard operating procedures and safety measures.
Concerned Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers have been instructed to inform essential installations, including hospitals and water supply schemes, about the outages in advance.
In a coordinated move, the respective O&M divisions have been directed to plan branch cutting and stabilization of 11 kV feeders in tandem with the shutdown schedule.
However, KPDCL has also added a caveat that if any important or urgent event coincides with the shutdown dates, the approval for the concerned lines will stand null and void.
