KP Web Desk Srinagar: October 12, 2017

A fresh braid chopping incident was reported from SD Colony of Batamaloo in Srinagar on Thursday.

The victim, a year old bride, who is also reported to be pregnant was busy in her daily chores when a unknown person entered her home and chopped her braid.

She lost consciousness and has been taken to the hospital. Protests have erupted in the area and the people are blaming the government for the incident.

Police on Wednesday said that 100 braid chopping incidents have been reported across the valley.

The Joint Resistance Leadership on Wednesday postponed their proposed TRC chalo rally against the incidents and called for peaceful protests on Friday. They had also asked students to protest against the ‘attack on the dignity and honour of their mothers and sisters’ today.

As a result, authorities ordered closure of all educational institutions on Thursday.

Many innocents have been roughed up by locals after mistaking them as braid choppers. Recently a group of tourists in the Rainawari area of the city were held by locals and accused of being braid choppers. However, with the help of locals, police was able to rescue them.

Recently Minister of Education Altaf Bukhari said that these incidents are a result of ‘mass hysteria’ and its a ploy to divert attention of students from education.

Braid chopping incidents have created a sense of fear psychosis among the people all over the valley.
