Approves mega project for beautification of Anantnag Town

Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Dheeraj Gupta, accompanied by Director Urban Local Bodies, MD HB, DP ULB and other senior functionaries today paid visit to Anantnag and chaired a meeting of concerned officers and ULB members at Dak Bangalow Khanabal to review the overall development scenario of urban areas of the district.

District Development Commissioner, Dr. Piyush Singla, President MCA, Hilal Ah Shah, ADC(S), CEO MCA, Presidents & EOs of MCs, councillors and district and sectoral officers attended the meeting.

DDC briefed the meeting about the status of several development projects being executed in the district under different state and centrally sponsored schemes like Capex, Languishing Projects, My Town My Pride and District Development Plan 2021-22 besides the issues associated with urban areas. He also highlighted several demands and sought their timely redressal for smooth development of urban regions.

Taking a thorough review of various programmes and schemes, Principal Secretary stressed for coverage of all eligible beneficiaries under welfare schemes like PM Awas Yojana (U), social security schemes for street vendors and others working in informal sector.

Gupta asked the concerned officers and executing agencies to gear up the pace of work and utilise the working season efficiently for timely completion of projects.

PS also directed the concerned to ensure effective sanitation and proper waste management, adding cleanliness of surroundings is crucial especially during COVID-19 pandemic. He informed that sufficient funds are available with the department for strengthening basic infrastructure in metropolitan areas of the UT besides constructing small colonies, affordable flats where ever land is available.

Principal Secretary further said sanitation and dumping of waste and garbage in all prominent cities and towns of the UT will be taken on modern dimensions in next 03 years and additional grant has been approved which shall be utilized to construct community halls, meeting halls, play grounds, open gym courts, town halls, improvement and face lifting of Bus Addas.

Gupta on the occasion approved the mega project for beautification and face lifting of Anantnag Town besides renovation of springs, installation of street lights and development of marriage and community halls. He also hailed the District Development Commissioner Anantnag for starting concrete measures for development of urban areas of the district.
