Renowned poet, writer and critic Prof Zaman Azurdah has been honoured with the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Award for the year 2017.

Azurdah has become the first Kashmiri to get the award. The award was announced by Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy in a statement. Azurdah was given the award for his contribution to Urdu language and literature. The award consists a cash prize of Rs five lakh and a citation.
Azurdah is a distinguished writer who has written around 40 books. The Sahitya Academy Award winner has also received four other awards from the UP Academy, two awards from West Bengal Urdu Academy, one award from Andhra Pradesh Urdu Academy and two awards from Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
