Srinagar, June 20 : Scores of female residents of Tengpora and adjoining areas on Tuesday held a protest against PDD at Tengpora Bypass for installation of smart meters and irregular power cuts in the area.
The female protesters were demanding immediate roll back of the drive.
“The government is pushing us to the wall. We are earning our livelihood after hard struggle in private sector. The government should consider at least our hardships. The installation of smart meters is not less than a catastrophe for us,” protestors told KNS.
They said on one hand government has failed to provide jobs to our educated youth and on the other hand the poor is being crushed under boots by imposing harsh taxes with the passing of each day.
The protesters were chanting slogans against PDD and urged them to roll back the drive forthwith. At the occasion thousands of vehicles got hampered on both sides of the highway, resulting inconvenience to commuters. Besides many Hajj pilgrims who were on way to Hajj House Srinagar were stuck in the protest.
Meanwhile officials from police administration reached to the spot and pacified the protesters after which movement of traffic was cleared from both sides of the highway.
