Protests erupted at Kashmir University on the second consecutive day today against the summoning of a varsity scholar by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
An eyewitness said that hundreds of students assembled outside the Vice Chancellor’s office to demand “release” of Aala Fazili, a PhD student.
The protesters who were raising slogans against the NIA and in favour of Kashmir’s freedom said that the central probe agency was harassing Fazili.
Fazili was quizzed by the NIA at their Delhi headquarter along with a trade leader Yasin Khan during past two days.
The protesters dispersed after the VC Khurshid Andrabi assured to take up the matter with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid.
Yasin Khan of Kashmir Traders and Marketing Federation, and PhD scholar Aala Fazil have been examined in New Delhi, a National Investigation Agency (NIA) spokesman told PTI news agency.
The duo was questioned about alleged funding to various groups that pelted the government forces with stones, he said.
The NIA had registered a case on May 30 to probe alleged cross-border funding to sponsor unrest in the valley.
The NIA has arrested 10 people so far in connection with its probe. They include Altaf Ahmed Shah, the son-in-law of Syed Ali Geelani, and prominent businessman Zahoor Watali.
Geelani’s close aides Ayaz Akbar, who is also the spokesperson of the Hurriyat (G), and Peer Saifullah have also been arrested.
