SRINAGAR, DEC 22 : Residents of Draklaran Abhama village in Rajpora belt of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday staged protest against PHE department for failing to provide drinking water to the area.
Locals said to provide drinking water to around 500 households, once inch has been installed which has failed to cater even one dozen households.
They said that in this chilling winter, we are forced to go to different areas to fetch drinking water from nearby nallahs which is very contaminated.
Water borne diseases have spread several times in the area but there is none to take care of the issue, said Nisar Ahmad a local resident.
He said that from last 10 days we haven’t received even a single drop of water due to people here suffering a lot.
We have been deprived of drinking water since October and as a result they consume water from local stream, which is not feasible for drinking, said another local.
Our women go in bone chilling cold and bring pots filled with water and later we consume that only, he said
We have been knocking doors of higher authorities since last one decade but their repeated assurances have proved hoax on ground, locals said.
They once again requested authorities to look into the matter and provide drinking water facilities to the area at an earliest.
Assistant executive engineer Ishfaq Ahmad said that issue will be redressed.
