Q. Tell us about yourself?
A. We are Kashmir born sisters and live in New Delhi.
Q.What is the Quilling artwork?
A. Quilling artwork is an innovative and vibrant craftwork which involves usage of thin paper strips and a quilling needle to make various customized patterns.
Q. What motivated you to pursue this work?
A.Basically we both were passionate about starting something of our own since a long time. And we were into craftwork since we were students, but that time we used to craft as a hobby and not as a business. We would make wall hangings made of old newspapers, magazines and we would gift it to our friends and family or keep it for home decor. So almost a year back, my sister bought a quilling needle and paper strips from a nearby store and she tried her hand on making a circle shaped quilling fridge magnet. When I saw it, I was awestruck at the beauty of that magnet and I loved the work so much that we decided to carry on this work together on a larger scale. Since we both were always looking forward to start our own business, we decided to give quilling work a try! We started to make some basic fridge magnets of different shapes such as butterflies, birds, animals, flowers, name initials and so on.
Q. How did you start the venture?
A. We created our page on instagram with the name @quilling.onlinestore and started uploading pictures of our artwork and within no time alhamdulilah many of our fridge magnets were sold and we were happy about the feedback. This motivated us to try our hands on other quilling artwork. We downloaded some of the photos from pinterest so that we get an idea what to create. After that, we ordered some of the basic tools used for quilling work from amazon and we got started with it. Once we take orders, we make it a point to share our work progress with our customers, so that if there is any changes needed to be done, we are happy to do it there and then, because our goal is to achieve the satisfaction from the clients. Today, after almost 10 months of starting the page, we can proudly say that our work is in demand, it is appreciated by everyone whoever comes across our page and we get orders back to back from the customers. Hoping to grow even more in the future and serve our clients in the best possible way. Our motive is to create the best artwork for our valuable customers because the precious money that they send us has to be worthwhile. .
Q. What is the procedure of this artwork and what material is needed for this art?
A. The basic material needed for quilling work are the thin paper strips which are in different sizes such as 3mm, 5mm, 7mm and 10mm. I mostly work with 5mm strips. There is a wide range of colors available for the same. Other than that, some of the other tools needed are quilling needle, tweezer, crimper, shape moulds, scissors, fevicol and quilling board.
The procedure of our work is simple. Once the customer places an order from us, we start making it and approximately within three days we try to finish it, next step is to- take the artwork for framing. After two days, we get it framed and we do proper packaging and courier it to the desired address the next day.
Q. How do you market the products and how is the response?
A. For now we only have instagram page with the name @quilling.onlinestore but we are soon going to launch our own website. Infact we are working on it. From instagram we are getting a good response because we believe instagram has become a great platform for advertising and marketing of your business. We take orders from Delhi and ship throughout India.
Q. Tell us about the collection readily available with you and how do you take orders from the customers?
A. We have a different types of quilling artwork such as fridge magnets, quilling logos, quilling earrings, framed art for couples, children or for different occasions as per the requirement of customers. Both framed and unframed art are available on our page on instagram and prices vary with the size of the artwork. We mostly work on a3 and a4sized sheet of pastel papers, but incase a customer wants to customize a particular size, we are always happy to serve them. In a nutshell, we can create any kind of quilling artwork. All we need from a customer is to share a picture from google or pinterest or elsewhere, so that we get an idea about it and give us a chance to create the artwork with our own imagination.
Q. What are your future plans ?
A. We are soon going to introduce quilling on canvas board, miniature art, name initials quilling work, keychains, earrings of different kinds and quilling work on photo frames.
