Srinagar, September 19, 2025 — In a landmark effort to raise awareness and foster dialogue around the lives, struggles, and rights of the transgender community — referred to as Kinnar in Hindi and Lanch in Kashmiri — Rama Theatre Natya Vidya, under the leadership of veteran theatre personality Rama Pandey, is organizing a powerful day-long event on September 20, 2025, at Tagore Hall, Srinagar.
The event will consist of two key segments:
1. Multi-Lingual Conference – 11:00 AM onwards
The day will begin with a thought-provoking multi-lingual conference that brings together eminent voices from diverse walks of life — activists, academics, artists, and members of the transgender community — to discuss the trials, tribulations, and the urgent need for social inclusion of trans persons in contemporary Indian society.
The conference aims to challenge societal stereotypes, raise awareness about the lived realities of the transgender community, and explore ways to foster empathy, respect, and equal opportunity. Discussions will focus on both the cultural legacy and modern challenges faced by the Kinnar/Lanch community.
2. Stage Play – Lallan Ms at 4:00 PM
In the evening, the conference will be followed by a theatrical performance of the play Lallan Ms, also at Tagore Hall, at 4:00 PM. The play, written and directed by Rama Pandey, is a powerful, multilingual dramatic narrative that tells the story of a transgender individual navigating identity, dignity, and acceptance in a society often marred by ignorance and exclusion.
Through evocative performances and sensitive storytelling, Lallan Ms seeks to challenge deep-seated prejudices and inspire audiences to view the transgender community through a lens of compassion, equality, and humanity.
Organisers of the Event:
Rama Pandey – Theatre Director, Writer, and Founder, Rama Theatre Natya Vidya
Roma Wani – Social Activist and Cultural Promoter
Dr. Hemla Agarwal – Academic and Gender Rights Advocate

The organisers hope to ignite conversations, provoke introspection, and inspire social change across generations.
