Reasi,28 Jul : Following continuous rainfall in the catchment areas, authorities have opened multiple gates of the Salal Hydroelectric Power Station on the Chenab River to regulate the rising reservoir level and ensure the safe operation of the dam.
The controlled release of excess water has led to a significant increase in the water level and flow of the Chenab River downstream. Officials said the measure is purely precautionary and is being taken to maintain the safety of the reservoir amid heavy inflows caused by persistent rainfall.
The administration has advised residents living along the banks of the Chenab River to remain alert and avoid venturing close to the river. People have also been urged to stay away from low-lying areas and follow all instructions issued by local authorities.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and the release of water will continue to be regulated depending on rainfall and inflow into the reservoir.
