Remembering Literary Luminaries a Core Priority of Fiction Writers Guild

The Fiction Writers Guild organized its 335th session on Saturday afternoon, 26 July 2025, at its city office located in Heera Manzil, Central Market, Abi Guzar, Lal Chowk, Srinagar.

This session was held in memory of the renowned Urdu poet, writer, and fictionist Dr. Tarannum Riyaz (late) and was presided over by the eminent poet, broadcaster, and former Director of Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Ms. Rukhsana Jabeen.

At the outset, the session was opened by the well-known fiction writer and General Secretary of the Guild, Mr. Nasir Zamir, who welcomed the chairperson, guests, and audience. He reiterated that paying tribute to departed literary personalities is one of the Guild’s core commitments, and such gatherings will continue in the future.

The program began with a reading of Dr. Tarannum Riyaz’s short story “Chori” (Theft) by Ms. Rehana Shajar.

Renowned Urdu scholar Dr. Sujan Kour Bali emotionally reminisced about the time she had spent with Dr. Tarannum Riyaz.

Young writer Mr. Suhail Salim presented a thoughtful paper titled “Dr. Tarannum Riyaz: Some Memories, Some Words.”

Dr. Syeda Nighat Nazar read her Kashmiri short story “Aawran Hind Pounpur,” which was well received and sparked a meaningful discussion.

Famous Kashmiri fiction writer Mr. Shakeel Rehman read his story “Pajeh Tal,” which the audience greatly appreciated and praised.

In her presidential address, Ms. Rukhsana Jabeen paid glowing tribute to Dr. Tarannum Riyaz, describing her as a distinguished female voice of Urdu literature who achieved an eminent place in literary circles due to her talent and creative excellence. She also congratulated the Fiction Writers Guild for fulfilling its responsibility by honoring and remembering eminent writers and literary figures.

The event was compered in a distinct and engaging style by the popular young anchor Mr. Niyaz Ahmad Butt.

In conclusion, the Guild’s General Secretary Mr. Nasir Zamir expressed gratitude on behalf of the Fiction Writers Guild to the chairperson, participants, and audience, said Zubair Qureshi, Media coordinator, JKFWG
