‘Poochte hain wo ki Ghalib Kaun hai?
Koi Batlao Ki hum batlaein Kya’
( They ask me Who is Ghalib? Someone tell me what shall I say)
Ghalib who remains one of the most and popular and influential poets of the Urdu language till this day. He unveiled many mysteries in the journey of one’s own self. His verse is characterised by a lingering sadness borne of a tragic life. To understand his poetry in its correct perspective one needs to take an overview of his social, economical and social circumstances. Ghalib even makes no bones about his religious beliefs or lack of them.
When one goes through the Dewaan-E-Ghalib he can clearly see that his poetry even includes Wahdatul Wajood (Pantheism),
‘Na tha Kuch to Khuda tha,
Na hota kuch to Khuda hota,
Dubooya Mujh ko honey ne,
Na hota mein to kya hota’.
As a student of his poetry, I can say that Ghalib never unveiled his real Conditions he always kept them hidden.(as I stumbled across this verse)
‘Mere hone mein hi kya Ruswayi
Ey! Wo Majlis nhi, Khalwat hi sahi.
(a difference between what is interpretated and what is actually meant)
It is important to move to the important things mentioned in his poetry, then being stuck perpetually to those one or two Couplets, that have been revolving here since years and let us not attribute the stuff to him which he has not written
Aate hai Gaeb se ye Mazameen Khayaal mein,
Ghalib Sareer-e-Khama, Nawa-e-Sarosh hai,.
