Prominent child specialist Dr Amarjeet Singh Sethi passed away in Haryana on Wednesday.

A resident of Gogjibagh Srinagar, Dr Sethi was the son of prominent medico Dr Mohan Singh Sethi, who conducted his medical practice at a Lal Chowk clinic for five decades. The deceased was at his sister’s place in Haryana at the time of his passing away.

Dr Amarjeet Singh Sethi was Professor and ex HOD Pediatrics, GMC Srinagar. He was the first Pediatrician from the Kashmir Valley to have graduated and postgraduated from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He was the first to have publications in prestigious and indexed journals in early seventies. He was the first Pediatrician to introduce proper immunization of children in Kashmir Valley.

He supervised the Exchange Transfusion for hyperbilirubinemia in newborn babies in 1977 the first time in Kashmir. He started Phototherapy treatment in Children Hospital Srinagar by making a Unit taking help from local carpenter, electrician and others. His students described him a great personality. He was a wonderful human being and a great teacher, his students said.
