Srinagar, July 1: Prominent socio-political activist and devoted supporter of the Mirwaiz institution, Ghulam Mohammad Baig—affectionately known as Maam Baigh—passed away, leaving behind a legacy of principled activism and unwavering commitment to the people of Downtown Srinagar.
Deeply mourning his demise, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed heartfelt grief, calling the loss deeply personal. “He had a deep association with Shaheed-e-Millat and after him, with me—standing by me rock solid till the end,” the Mirwaiz said. “Just weeks ago, I visited him to enquire about his health.”

Known for his steadfast belief in the just political cause of Kashmir, Maam Baigh was widely respected for his consistent advocacy and his concern for the issues affecting the people of the old city. His passing marks the end of an era of sincere and principled activism rooted in the values of dignity and resilience.
