Srinagar, Apr 7 : Residents of Arin and Dardpora areas in Bandipora district on Monday hailed the efforts of local contractor and political figure Mushtaq Ahmad Tantray for restoring the Dardpora-Gabpathri road after it was blocked due to landslides triggered by heavy rains.
The road, which serves as a key link for several upper areas, was rendered inaccessible on Sunday after multiple landslides hit the stretch, disrupting movement and leaving commuters and locals stranded.
Residents said continuous rainfall led to debris accumulation at several points, making the road unsafe and impassable. “The road was completely blocked after landslides. Movement of vehicles had come to a halt, causing inconvenience to people,” locals said.
They said the issue was brought to the notice of Tantray, who responded promptly by deploying men and machinery to clear the debris.
“Soon after we informed him, he sent a team along with machinery. The work was started immediately and continued for hours,” they said.
According to locals, the restoration work was carried out on a priority basis, and the road was reopened for traffic after sustained efforts by the team.
“The connectivity has been restored, and vehicles are now plying normally. This has brought relief to the residents of the area,” they added.
Residents appreciated Tantray’s response, stating that such timely intervention helped prevent prolonged disruption in the area. They said his action reflected concern for public issues and willingness to respond quickly during emergencies.
“His efforts are appreciable. At a time when people were facing difficulty, he ensured that the road was cleared without delay,” locals said.
They expressed hope that similar attention would be given to other infrastructure issues in the area to ensure smooth connectivity and public convenience.(KNS).
