Authorities on Wednesday imposed restrictions in old city Srinagar after a Nowhatta area resident died in gunfight with governmentforces in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, police said.

Hizb ul Mujahideen militant Sajad Ahmad Gilkar, who belonged to Pandan locality in Nowhatta area, was among the three militants who died in Tuesday’s gunfight with forces in Radbug village.

According to the police, restrictions have been imposed as a preventive measure in Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowhatta, M.R. Gunj and Safa Kadal areas.

Authorities have also suspended Internet services on mobile phones in Srinagar and Budgam as a “precautionary measure”.

Internet services were suspended in Budgam district last night.
