SRINAGAR 31 Aug : The proposed Rs 1,667-crore expansion of the Civil Enclave at Srinagar International Airport is expected to raise its annual passenger-handling capacity to one crore, with the project targeted for completion by 2031, according to details submitted by the Jammu and Kashmir Government to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The proposal, approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on February 24, 2026, envisages the construction of a new Integrated Terminal Building with a built-up area of 71,500 square metres.
According to the information submitted by the J&K administration, the proposed terminal will be capable of handling 2,900 passengers during peak hours and up to one crore passengers annually.
The project has an estimated implementation period of 48 months and is currently in the tendering stage.
The expansion is aimed at meeting the growing passenger traffic at Srinagar airport, particularly during peak tourism seasons, and is expected to provide additional capacity and modern passenger facilities.
Officials said the larger terminal is likely to improve passenger movement, reduce congestion and strengthen Srinagar’s role as Kashmir’s principal aviation gateway.
The project is also expected to support sectors dependent on improved air connectivity, including tourism, hospitality, transport, trade and horticulture, while contributing to broader regional connectivity and economic development.
