SRINAGAR, Sept 5: Senior Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo on Friday strongly criticised the administration for mishandling the declaration of the Eid-e-Milad holiday in Jammu and Kashmir, terming the decision as “unjust” to the people.

In a statement, Itoo said that despite clear guidelines stipulating that such holidays depend on the sighting of the moon, the authorities failed to adjust the official holiday accordingly.

“Repeated appeals from the elected government to realign the holiday were ignored. This is nothing short of playing with people’s sentiments,” she remarked, adding that such decisions “must rest with an elected government, not a selected administration.”
