Dear friends,
We are overwhelmed by the tremendous response to our call for poetry for our new column, Samovar Songs.
Poetry erupts from the heart, and touches the hearts of other readers. All the verses are heart-warming, soft, poetic whisperings, subtle and succinct, deeply resonating with the readers. Brimming with sensory images, they are a sheer delight. We hope to receive many more enriching, soul-stirring poems in the coming days.
Remember, your poem could be THE POEM OF THE WEEK
And YOU could be THE POET OF THE WEEK.
So don your poetry caps and send us your best poetry.
We start our new column with a very meaningful, metaphorical poem by Nivedita Roy.
Cheer her on as we move forward with a spring in our step, and a twinkle in our eyes.

When a canny crow strikes a friendship
with a spiffy scarecrow
Nivedita Roy
“Original is an original, forever.
A first copy is an imitation.”
A crow cawed in jest.
Spiffy Scarecrow was a sport.
He too, joined in the mirth.
“I am a scarecrow, trusted upon
You are shooed away, trust begone.
Lonelier than thou no more.”
The duo had a great equation score.
“I feel and face racial discrimination.
Humans show a racist condescension.”
Confided the canny one.
And in sympathy nodded the spiffy one.
“Opportunism is a human trait, my pal.
I am here so I can watch the field overall.
Me, they can make or mar, you and I here are not at par.
Other winged creatures take me for granted.
They peck at me and destroy what’s planted.”
Now it was the turn of the canny crow to agree.
The human race was quirky.
Both grinned at their philosophical approach.
Humanity was far beyond their reproach.
