After being closed for months to prevent the spread of coronavirus, various schools in Jammu reopened on Monday for students of classes 10 and 12, as per new government guidelines.
However, he added that attendance was low in both private and government schools for both the classes, but it is expected to increase in the coming days.
All educational institutions, including universities and colleges, were closed for offline classes on April 18 to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Several higher education institutions started working for vaccinated students earlier this month.
As per the latest COVID guidelines issued by State Executive Committee (SEC) chairman and chief secretary Arun Kumar Mehta on Sunday evening, the government has allowed schools for classes 10 and 12 to teach individually with certain conditions.
Regular classes were allowed for class 12th in educational institutions with limited individual learning on a certain day for vaccinated students and staff. Similarly, limited individual tuition of Class 10 students, not exceeding 50 per cent on any given day, was allowed by the Deputy Commissioner concerned, after the school management ensured compliance with the COVID-appropriate behaviour.
“However, classes shall be run after 100% screening through Rapid Antigen Test or RT-PCR, also subject to the consent of the parents and students,” the order read.
